Re: NX 10 documentation error

Hello ,

So far it looks like you are doing nothing wrong. Just cannot figure out whay it fails for you.

I thought it might be the folder names you used, but even with the same names, it runs fine for me.

Not sure if it has something to do with you  local language setup on your system.

I would for sure just report this to GTAC, so development can have a look at this, as to me it looks like the script is tripping on something, where it should not. And it should not fail, or give at least a more useful error message.

Just another try to get around this issue. In you folder: D:\nx-11.0.1- nxdocs\dvdrom1101_docs\nxhelp_update1101 you will find the bat file it's complaining about. could you please just run this bat file, and see if this proceeds, or give a different error if it does fail?

So just double click the file: nxdocs_update.bat

Does this work? if not, what is the message you get?

Kind regards,

Dennis

Invalid name when exporting to dxf

I am trying to launch the DWG/DXF export wizard but it doesn't appear. Instead it said Invalid file name. This is my translation I am not using english language in NX. Anyone know how to solve it? Thank you

"In NX 9 this is OFF out of the box. In later releases it is turned ON by default."

Thanks for the warning, I suspect I will get complaints once we move to NX11, when I turned "smart lightweight" on in NX9, it only lasted a couple days, before the number of complaints caused me to turn it back off.  And I'm sure people would want to know what the complaints were, but it's been so long ago, I don't recall.

Has "smart lightweight" been improved/changed in NX10 and 11?

How deep a folder structure are you trying to install from?

I've run into occasional problems trying to install NX or docs from "N:\a\really\deep\and\long\folder\structure\...\*.exe"

If I copy the install files to C:\temp, it runs fine (it could be either directory depth or just total number of characters in the path)

Does your file name have any special characters?  If it does, try again using letters and numbers only (e.g., abc123).
Does this happen for every file you try to export?  If it does you might want to consider contacting your local GTAC office.

The file is ok because I can export it with other PC (Sorry I should have explained that before). I have checked the dxf/dwg translator options and in both PC are the same. I have tried rebooting the system...

Search your NX log file for "Invalid filename" (Menu > Help > Log File). Is there an error code? Can you copy/paste it here?

Are you exporting it to the same folder on both PCs?

I have tried to export from the same file to same lan folder and to local folders, always with the same error in the first PC and always successfully in the second PC. I also have found that if I try to export form a TC drafting with the first PC then it can do the job. I am starting to suspect that the error happens since the first time this PC exported to dxf from TC.

This is the error code:

*** EXCEPTION: Error code  1020005 in line 69 of o:\ugnx1101\ip11\src\part\no\ind\System_OSFileSpecType.cxx

So this is an export from a Teamcenter managed session? You could try exiting NX and Teamcenter and clear out the user's cache.
Does the export work if you log into the workstation (i.e., Windows) as a different user and export?

No, the error is from native sesion. In managed session I can export to dxf without any error.

I have tried with a different user and then it let me export Smiley Happy Thanks Ben, it looks like you are in the right way.

How can I delete NX temp files / user's cache? Will I lose any configuration?

So a different user logged into the same workstation works?

Deleting the cache was only a suggestion if this was a TC managed session.  As it's native you could try exiting the NX session, delete the contents of the user's Temp directory, restart NX and attempt the export.

I have replaced the DialogMemory.dlx and now the problem is solved. I have lost my dialog configuration though, but is not a big problem. Thank you very much Ben, you found what the problem was.

Interesting. Good to know. Thanks for following up with the solution.

Have you tried opening an NX command window as Administrator, and then running ugs_update.bat in that command window?  There is one case I found where the PATH variable had some questionable entries.  Feel free to post your PATH here so we can check it if you're still having problems.

But it doesn't work using Feature Parameter dimensions.

Confirmed. But it does work with the new Radial Dimension command if you use the new Hole Callout method. Call GTAC if you want to pursue having the Feature Parameter callout corrected.
