Creating Radial Hole Callout

Trying to make a hole callout.

Get the message "Creating a Hole Callout requires feature data to be fully loaded"

Have seen it befor but could still get callout for holes. This morning I can't on this part.

Have the part fully loaded... why am i getting this alarm? How can I get it to not show in the future?

Help says feature data needs to loaded into the drafting part file, but not how to do it...

Don't see anything in drafting preferences about loading feature parameters.

Thanks, Paul S.

It sounds like you are using the master model method (part file is a component of the drawing file). In this case, switch to your assembly navigator, right click on the component, and choose open -> component fully.

Tried that, and tried just opening the part on it's own, so I knew it would be fully loaded.

I am using the master model concept. It is a drawing of an Assy. This part is on a separate page and brought in as a single component. The 1st. page is the Assy with BOM and additional pages are added to cover all the individual custom components.

It is weird because I had no issue with another component in the same Assy.

Help doesn't imply fully opening the component, but fully loading the feature data...??

I have a solution using ENV variables set in the portal.bat, and used in a "common" start_nxmanager.bat, but that will be "interesting" to maintain...

This was discussed many times before.

Where I wrote:

NX hole callout is unreliable. It hast its own moments. Sometimes it works and the next moment it’s not. (Even with fully loaded components).
Our VAR also confirmed this absurd behaviour. Since this is not a reproducible with an example, we are unable to report it to GTAC.

"Feature Parameters" supposed to be retired soon, but I don't think that you could let it go for good.

Anti Aliasing in NX 8.5

It seems that NX 8.5 doesn't use the Anti Aliasing functions that my Nvidia Quadro P4000 offers. See screenshots below. Even after going into the Nvidia control panel and doing an "override" on the 3D settings of NX (setting Antialiasing to max) it shows now improvement in line quality.

However, going into the NX settings (Preferences > Visualisation > Visual)  and turning off "Line Antialiasing" as well as "Full Scene Antialiasing" results in an even uglier line quality.

How can I improve line quality further?

Subsequent to a 5day in class Siemens PDW training, for the last 4 years I’m trying to implement PDW without much success. It has some usable functions here and there but as a die design package; I’m telling you, it’s a disaster! You may be lucky enough to design a simple straight bend Prog Die, but not for regular parts with even a bit of a challenge. Simply it’s too basic and messy and not practical enough to design a die from the start.

Since currently we hit a dry time, in the past few days I was revising my PDW course material again and trying to work on a simplest bracket I could find. It ended up hitting the blind walls. Then later I was calling our VAR and even they had no answers. (they highly promote PDW.)

I thought of starting a NX Forum thread on these issues, but I later thought not to as I don’t think anybody is using PDW as their die design package. I will be just crying foul in the eyes of other NX users.

Hope I’m wrong with the above assumption and if someone has some good experience with PDW applications, I’m ready to bring up some issues to discuss.

Re: Can't WAVE link a sketch segment, that is referenced, as a Composite Curve

Hi Ganesh,

The WAVE type, Sketch does still works however you're forced to WAVE the entire sketch.

Before you could avoid that by using the, Composite Curve type and selecting individual curves of a sketch (so long as the curves were not crossing). This still works with active (non-reference) sketch curves.

Hopefully this will be changed back because this is an unfortunate loss in functionality.

Thanks again,
SMO

Open an incident report (IR) with GTAC to make sure that they are aware about this loss of functionality.

Is there a way to auto assign a face name to a face color?

Hello - I have to frequently color faces in accordance to the name of those faces.  Is there a way to automate this?  For example, I'd like to color a certain face red, and by doing so, the face's name automatically becomes "X".

Thank you.

Ural,

can you make a screenshot of your NX window.
Maybe there is a selection that's not on.

Re: Export STL default tolerances

Is it possible to create a color map on the face such as wall thicken analysis by NXAPI?

It should be split the faces to partitions, is it a good way to use facet body ? we can get the vertical values , but the there are no face tag for the partitions.

who knows the methodology of the Wall thicken analysis function?  does it use finite elements to divide the object ?

Any good suggestions, please advise.

Thank you.

G1 magnitude" (Studio Spline)?

I can't figure out the meaning of "G1 magnitude" in the Studio Spline command, even after examining the official help.

Can anybody give some clues? Thanks a lot!

Is that possible without creating an auxiliar assembly? I cant charge one inside the other.

Hello,

The G1 magnitude makes the poles tangentional. The magnite can be choosen for the beginning and the end of the spline (also without existing curves or geometries).

Take a look at my video. The G1 magnitude is an automatism for something you could also do by constrains

As well as  I cannot modify the STL tolerance default values in customer defaults, also I don't understand the corrispondence-matching between the 'old' and the 'new' tolerance values.

Hi

The way to do it is using nxopen. A routine that cycles through faces of a workpart, asks names and colors accordingly. Shouldn't be that much work.

Maybe you can find something like that on the "customization" part of the forum, or attach an example part with face with the name pointed out and I can help you.

p.s- perhaps the discussion should be moved to customization part of forum

Not really a solution.

But an answer to this bizarre behavior. Maybe someday... in a future release holes will be easy to detail
