Re: Why NX shows small and large letters ? Problem importing.

ugii_env_ug.dat - This is SIEMENS file to control.  Do NOT edit it.  Siemens may change arbitrarily at MR or MP upgrades.

ugii_env.dat - THIS is the file you want to edit (unless you have the ENV variable UGII_ENV_FILE set, in which case that file should be edited instead)

ugii_env.dat_default - this is a "backup" of ugii_env.dat, in case you really screw up ugii_env.dat and want to get back to the "as installed" settings.  Do NOT edit it...

Briefly, when NX starts, it only uses ONE definition for an ENV variable.

The FIRST one defined in the following list is the one that gets used (all "later" ones are ignored):

  1. "process specific" OS level ENV (e.g. defined in a .BAT file used to start NX)
  2. "user" OS level ENV (System -> Advanced system settings -> Environment Variables -> TOP half of dialog)
  3. "system" OS level ENV (System -> Advanced system settings -> Environment Variables -> BOTTOM half of dialog)
  4. ugii_env.dat _OR_ file pointed to by ENV variable UGII_ENV_FILE
  5. ugii_env_ug.dat

If you are using TC, *I think* they are set between (1) and (2).  Also note, in TC, that if you change an OS level ENV (2 or 3 above), you have to close _BOTH_ NX _and_ TC, then restart TC, then start NX, for NX to see the change.

1 thru 3 follow the same rules are your operating system

Ciao ,

I made many tube like this when I worked with companies that made kitchen...

I do as well as in the attached file.

p.s. the value 5x3/2 is the bend radius usually 3/2 of the tube radius.

NX11 Information Window Issue

We recently update to NX 11.0.2.7 MP3 and are having an issue with the information window. The information window is always on top now, even when NX is not the active application. This makes it difficult to switch and use other applications(Email, Teamcenter, etc.). Is there an option that I have missed that would cause this behavior? I don't recall this issue in previous versions nor in the MP1 patch that we used for a short time.

Sketch Reattach Error: Matrix is non orthonormal

Hello,

I am trying to reattach a sketch that has lost its reference vector, but I get this message with no more information:

Matrix is non orthonormal.

Is there a way to solve this and set the sketch references again?

Thanks in advance!!

Thanks.  I was hoping there was a way to reference or link an attribute from the parent part.

In the assembly file (assy.prt) create the string expression:
AssyName=ug_askcurrentworkpart()

In the component file create the string interpart expression:
ParentAssy="assy"::AssyName

Use the "Category: Relationships" option under the Symbols section of the Note editor to use the interpart expression in your title block.

I am now with Siemens (or EDS or UGS or Unigraphics Solutions....) for about 20 years, starting with UG V13. And yes, I really like NX.... but let me just add my (probably not 100% objective) two cents.

In my opinion there were 2 1/2 really big changes in the User Interface since I know NX. First, the switch to Windows Native with UG V16, away from the Motif UI to Windows. Secondly, the new dialog interaction model, that started with NX 5. And second (and a half) the Ribbon UI, that is "only" a replacement of toolbars, but it gives NX a pretty different touch.

All of these changes were really necessary, and every user had to get used to it. But what if we'd still have old and ugly dialogs with very different behavior depending on the function? Changes need to be made, or a software will simply disappear from the market. However I understand users that needed to change their design methodologies to reach their goal.

But NX did never break upwards compatibility of data, I have NX datasets that are older than 25 years. All of them can be opened and edited without any issues with NX12. Of course, there are also cases where some migration tasks needed to be performed, like converting legacy assembly constraints, and in some spots even slight rework was needed.

And over the years NX changed from a CAD/CAM system to a strategic, multidisciplinary design platform with integrated, multi-domain high-end CAM and CAE capabilities. And it won't stop there. NX11 introduced convergent modeling and Additive Manufacturing. NX12 brought some new applications, like P&ID Designer, Automation Designer and Fixture Planner. All of them pretty far off the traditional 3D scope, enabling customers to streamline their processes on a single platform. Only tremendous investments in NX's architecture could make that happen.

I admit NX is not perfect, and some competitors do a better job in some areas (which is probably true for any software on the planet). But from the "eagle's perspective" the strategic direction is the right one.

I am looking very much forward to the new NX major version that is going to be released, even though it will not be named in the same fashion as I am used to now. And one more comment: By now, I did not read any announcement that the UI of this NX release will change once again...

Let's not turn this into another ribbon discusssion.  There's already a thread for that here.

Thanks, Ben

Hello all,

Many of you may have access to NX Routing Mechanical with your Mach bundles.  NX12100, NX13100, and NX13300 include a routing base license that allows you to use basic routing functionality.

While there's several ways to create this using routing, I used a simple way that didn't require me to do any math, just use the dimensions on the pdf directly.  (Okay, I did change the default bend radius to 20 by adding half the stock diameter to the inner bend radius. Smiley Happy)

I've attached a video.

Thanks

Doug

Re: problems and missing options with the stl export feature

The STL export settings I know about are File-->Utilities--> Customer Defaults -->General -->Translators --> STL Export

This is mainly default tolerances.

To get the sheet options shown in the link above, the only way I see them is when I knowingly select a sheet body when prompted to "select objects to export" by the STL Export dialog box.

The STL format is designed for "stereo lithography" or 3d printing, so the error messages guide you to try to export a "sewn" solid model. Although it does let you export an open sheet.

Could you have problems with the tolerances being too large or too small? These could be session specific.

The following movie starts off with a native session showing lower case part file names. I then set UGII_OPTION=UPPER in the ugii_env.dat file and start an NX session from Teamcenter and import the lower case native parts into Teamcenter. You'll see them import as UPPER CASE. I then unset the variable and restart the NX session from Teamcenter to show that the upper case names remain. Hope this helps.

There is an existing PR 8982010 on the information window not resetting to the start of output.  I find this very annoying.

I wish it were that easy for us. Unfortunately synchronising software packages around the globe takes time to make those changes. I was hoping that was not the only fix.

texture 3d

Good evening colleagues, I have pending a task with NX, the theme of putting textures, and I go to the community to see what possible solutions can contribute.
The theory is to use the flattening to flatten the surface, after put the 3d texture and take it back with the global shapping. The problem comes with multi-surfaces. Here are some videos of other software and I will soon upload one of what I am capable with NX.

Dear Siemens PLM Customer,

NX 12.0.0 MP03 is an accumulation of fixes built for installation on top of the Windows 64-Bit image of NX 12.0.0.

To select the release package for your platform click on the following link or enter the URL in your browser address window:

       https://download.industrysoftware.automation.siemens.com/download.php

Note: A valid WebKey account is required.

From the Download page, enter “12.0.0.mp03” (including the quotes) in the Search box to see a list of links for the release letter and the available release package.

Alternatively, the release package can be found using the file navigator by selecting ‘NX’ from the menu on the left and then expand the following folders: Product updates > Maintenance-packs > Nx12 > Windows (64-bit).

Sincerely,

Ben Broad

This may sound dumb, but one thing you can do is resize the edges of the information window to be very small so it does not get in the way. Maximize it when you need to read what is in it, then minimize it again.
