Re: Routing: how to restrict spline freedom to one plane ?

,

I don't see any image attached above as you stated.

You should be able to do so within the Studio Spline dialog. Make sure you have the dialog fully expanded such that you're able to see all the options/settings. There is an option to constrain to plane - see the image below for reference.

The other option would be to create the spline in a Sketch but that can get overly complicated if you need to fully constrain it.

Thanx for the help!  This was my bad, I was trying to export a sketch composed almost entirely of projected geometry, but not export the geometry's mommy features.  I may have still been doing it wrong, but I don't think that was going to work in any case.

Consider whether you want the copied sketch to have associativity (or not) to the part where you copied from.

If you want to maintain associativity, there are two ways to do it. (1) is to maintain associativity to dimension values only, or (2) the second is to maintain associativity to the sketch geometry itself.

(1) When you paste the sketch, if you select Expressions Mapping = Link to original, you can create links to expressions.

(2) Instead of Copy/Paste, use WAVE eometry Linker to link the geometry of the sketch. This method will require both parts to be in an assembly. This method is very useful if you have important sketch geometry you want to share with multiple parts in an assembly.

image.pngHello Tim,

I didn't try to attach an image so far.

It did strike me the page was stating some kind of error about a missing page.

I just took it as a browser incompatibility.

Never mind.

That "Studio Spline" is new to me.

Is that also in NX11 ?

I'll look into that fo sure.

In the meantime, I have solved my model by using a sketch to get my spline in the form of combined curves.

I managed to get a fixed length on the combined curve.

That does it for me.

Otherwise I would need both a linear path and a spline in one path, which seems not to be possible as far as I could find....

So I left the routing for what it is, and went with conventional modelling, which did do the trick for me.

riteHi,

thank you to all for the support. GTAC had helped me to understand and I write here the reason.

I put in the part list setting the string <T<W$=@Codice>!Q.ty $~Q>.

Parts with missed balloons had not the attribute 'Codice'.

The solution is to add the missed attribute or put in the part list setting the string <T<W$=@$PART_NAME>!Q.ty $~Q>.

A have restarted and made lot of experiments, but it keep by drag & drop still setting snap. By setting customer default "skip of add component dialog" it use reference set Entire Parts against i set befor in window Add Component all on absolute and ref set Final Part. It looks like it is exclude from Save Dialog Memory.

I am working under NX 12.0.1.7. Is possibility set it hard in def file? May be it helps.

Hi ,

Is your problem that you're trying to lock the length for an entire path consisting of Routing Spline Paths and Routing Linear Paths?

You can use your solution in your other thread (to use a perimeter constraint) and then use the Connected Curves command in Routing to convert those sketch curves to a Routing Path.

Since Simple Length is "to be retired" am I correct in assuming the new measure can do this?

Simple length, you click the curve and you get a length of the tangent curves

simple.PNG.

Measure? How do I do it?

This is something I do more than a few times a day.

Hello Ben,

I will show you what I want to do with two pictures of the same thing, two positions.

Fixed length:

The challange here, for doing it in routing, is that there are arcs with a fixed radius, tangent with straight curves, the total which has to keep a fixed total length.

That means that when one of the ends moves, he position of the arcs has to move, and the connection points between the arcs and the straights has to move and he lengths of all the pieces has to change....

I managed to do it in a sketch, of which I used the curves to sweep a profile on.

Hello,

I have a user who is having a similar issue where he is trying to upload a spreadsheet into his BOM.  He is getting a "Could not connect to the spreadsheet" error.  I was going to try adding the UG Add-In but when I go to Excel > Options > Add-Ins there is no Add-In there so I select the Manage: Excel Add-ins and the [Go] button.  At the 'Add-ins available' screen, I do not have a 'Ug' option listed.  How can I add that in?

Thank you!

I think the confusion is that your signature seems to be set to "Image already added".

Leaving it like that is going to always get people asking where the image is...

Yes, Studio Spline has been around for quite some time and is still present in NX11 - it should be available unless it's under a more advanced license (I'm not sure about that, sorry).  It could be the Role you're using - if you mess with your Role, make sure you back it up first before changing it.

You should be able to accomplish what you want with or without using Sketcher - if the paths are planar, it shouldn't be difficult to work outside of Sketcher, but some people don't feel as comfortable doing such.

I think I can reproduce the issue on another machine.

I checked the PR database. This problem was filed as a PR and is fixed in NX 12.0.2 ip1.

Hi ,

Hit "Browse" on the Manage Excel Add-Ins dialog and look for the ug.xla file found in %UGII_BASE_DIR%\UGII\, for example:  C:\Program Files\Siemens\NX 11.0\UGII\

Not getting on a soapbox, but I typically Sketch on a Datum CSYS - then when I paste the Sketch and Datum CSYS into to the new part, it's just a matter of locating the Datum CSYS if needed.  The Sketch follows the Datum CSYS.  No worries about recreating those particular parents when pasting - probably doesn't solve the issue with the projected curves though.

Make sense?

Re: New problem with Excel and NX not working together

Hello ,  Do you know if the person having this problem is using "Foxit" for PDF files?  I was and the Siemens NX helpdesk gave this step-by-step procedure for helping me resolve the problem.

1. If Foxit PDf Reader is installed:

- Uninstall Foxit.

- Reboot.

2.  Ensure that the Ug Add-in is listed and checked in Excel (and not disabled).

a) Excel: File > Options > Add-Ins

Ug should be listed.

b) Manage: Excel Add-ins > Go

Ug add-in should be checked.

 3. Ensure that the path for Ug.xla is added to the Excel Trust Center Settings.

a) Excel: File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings

b) If path to Ug.xla is not listed:

Select "Add new location... > Browse" and browse to the NX install directory that contains the

ug.xla (e.g., C:\Program Files\Siemens\NX 10.0\UGII) > OK > OK > OK > Exit Excel

4. Restart NX, create a new part and select Menu > Tools > Spreadsheet

5. Confirm that Excel now starts.

6. Optional) Reinstall Foxit but ensure the Excel plugin is UNCHECKED so it does not conflict with the UG Add-in

in Excel.

Re: How to use NX expression to send value to TC Attribute

Hi ,

See if this movie helps.  I tried to demonstrate associating NX Expressions to Teamcenter Classification, via Part Attributes and attribute mapping, three different ways:

  1. Creating a part in NX, referencing the expressions in Part Attributes and then classifying the Item Revision in Tc
  2. Creating an Item in Tc and then pulling the attribute values into expressions in a part in NX
  3. Creating a part in NX and Classifying the part using the Reuse Library, inheriting the expressions on-the-fly

Grab a coffee, some popcorn and (optional) turn on the audio Smiley Happy
