Re: continuous auto dimensioning bug?

If you think about auto dimensions this way, it makes sense:

"Auto dimensions show you where your sketch needs more driving dimensions to be fully constrained to fully capture your design intent."

It should be a safe assumption that you want to create a fully constrained sketch if you are interested in a reference dimension. When you converted a driving dimension to a reference dimension, you have deleted one dimension. If your sketch had been fully constrained, it is no longer fully constrained.

I would say this is not a bug, and NX should work this way. The fact that an auto dimension was created should alert you to the fact that your sketch is not fully constrained.

Bridge Curve G2+G1

I try to build a Bridge Curve with G2+G1. To my surprise, a degree-5, but not a degree-4 spline, is created.

As shown in the red rectangle below, NX creates two additional poles where only one is needed to get G1.

If I want a lighter curve, it seems that I should use Studio Spline instead.

Hope to have your comments. Thanks!

For me this new command is delirant.
On the old one for have delta measure it's very simple , chose items and show information windows with deltas. very simple very fast....now I must to choose what I want to select in a windows e one supplementary items for delta...(3 measuere for have 3 deltas?).
I have already actived flag "show information windows" but doesn't work.

after 2 weeks of bad words I come back on old one...

Sorry but for me it's a ugly copy of Catia measure command

How to add a control point to a spline? (+more)

Hi,

I apologize if this is a repost, but I couldn't find a satisfactory answer when I searched the forum. I'm switching over from Solidworks, and I have a few questions about how studio splines work in NX:

1. I have a studio spline that I created by clicking on some imported points. Now that the main shape is created, I'd like to add some more points to adjust some bumps that resulted. However, when I go into "Edit Parameters" and try to add a new point, the point is just added to the end of the list, and connects it to the last point on my list. I can't drag the point to a different position on the list, nor can I seem to snap a point to the spline itself.

I tried the ideas suggested in this thread, but none of the recommendations helped.

How do you add a new spline control point to an existing spline? This was super easy in solidworks - I just right-clicked the spline and chose "Add new control point". Is there something similar in NX?

2. How do I close a spline? Even after I've selected the spline plane, the studio spline tool won't let me close a spline by clicking on the point I selected to begin the spline. Is there another way to do this?

3. Is there a way to display the spline poles? (I think that's what they're called!) There are grey shapes in the studio spline logo that look a lot like the "control polygons" from splines in Solidworks. Those were really useful in Solidworks, it would be great to be able to use them in NX as well!

Thanks!

Hi Surfactant,

The Bridgecurve also provide you the dual end shape control - hence the 5 degree curve. Without understanding what you want to achieve I woul say go with Bridge Curve as it provides great simple to use control - Shape Control.

Best Regards

Fred

Hi jtrin,

Please have a look to the attached movie as it answers all your questions. Note for adding points the way I assume you expect you have to activate the the Point on Curve point selection selection option else you will only add a new point after the last point on the original spline curve.

Best Regards

Fred

That worked perfectly! I guess I just didn't have Point on Curve selected. I was also able to view the poles and close the spline.

Thanks!

Hi ,

Did you change save role after defining shortcut?

Make sure that you are using same role when shortcut was defined.

About attribute in drawing

Hi:

If the part and the drawing are in the same file, the fields in the title block can be directly filled in the attributes in the part, but if the drawing and the part are different files, how do you get the attributes in the part into the drawing?

Thanks

Reference set:query

Hi All,

I have created a dummy model to understand reference set. Here I have a problem regarding selecting the reference set

1. The NX default has EMPTY, Model and Entire Body

2. I have created one more set called SHEET with surfaces in it

3. When I switch to SHEET ref. set, it will hide all other things except the surfaces(Whatever the surfaces I chose will        shows up)

4. I go back to Model ref.set and hide everyting except the solid.

5. Now if I choose SHEET ref.set, the sheet will disappear!!!!!!

I need those surfaces when I replace reference set with SHEET. How can I choose reference set then??

Hi ,

At step4, Do not hide sheet bodies. When you will set reference set to 'SHEET1', It will show all the objects belonging to this reference set. or  While assembly is work part, Use'Show and Hide' (Ctrl+W) to show sheet bodies.

,

I do not want Model reference set with sheet bodies(only solid). What should I do?

Should I create another reference set called Solid??

No need to define new reference set if you can use the ootb model reference set. Just exclude those sheet bodies from model reference set.

Also note that NX has options for automating the "model" reference set. I think the default option is "sheets and solids" which will add all sheet and solid bodies into the model reference set. I prefer the option: "solids priority" which will only add solid bodies to the model ref set, if there are any solids in the part file. If there are no solid bodies, it will attempt to add sheet bodies instead. If/when a solid body is created in the part, it is added to the ref set and the sheets are removed. You can find the options in the customer defaults: Assemblies -> site standards -> reference sets.

Closing displayed part in NX and reverting back to Assembly

$

I have the following scenario in an open assembly

1. I Make a part the displayed part

2. Modify the displayed part and save it

3. Close the displayed part

At this point the screen reverts to the gateway screen. The previous assembly is still open but not displayed. Is it possible to change the setting so that the assembly open when I close the displayed part?

Thanks

Ciao ,

only 'Entire Part' and 'Empty' are default Reference Set, Model is a customer Reference Set which name is defined via Customer Defaults as you can see in the attache image.

If this row is left empty, no Reference Set will be created, (except the default Entire Part and Empty).

As you can see you can set Sheet and Solids, Solids Priority, No Automation.

I hope I helped you.

Ciao

NX11 - drainage simulation for dip processes

$

Hi,

I'm currently designing a process for painting several suspension components in a dip-based paint line. The parts I have to paint have complex geometry, and because of this it is sometimes difficult to find an orientation which avoids process liquids pooling on the parts, and therefore being transferred to the next stage where it might react with another chemical.

My question: to help me predict where pooling will occur in a given orientation of part, is there a tool within NX11 that is capable of highlighting areas with little or no drainage? I would imagine such a tool using a defined gravitational direction and colouring the part faces based on draining properties.

Many thanks,

Alex

you can set the customer default "Change displayed part on close". this option with open the previeus part in NX.

You can find the setting under Gateway->general->Part or use the search function in the customer default to find the setting.
