JT Ultra-Lightweight Precise Format and tess.config

Hi,

In Teamcenter Visualization 11.2, I have the ability to export a JT file using the Ultra-Lightweight Precise (ULP) Format which creates a much smaller JT file than I would otherwise have.

In NX 11, what settings do I need to put into the tess.config file to get a ULP format JT file exported?

Thanks,

JLM

You haven't given me much to go on, but I'll try my luck suggesting a solution.

There may be a couple reasons.  Typically this is cased by a user inadvertantly turning off the option to "Save Feature Replay Data". If Feature Replay data is missing, with each update, the Feature Replay data is recalculated causing an update.

Before NX 12, I found a very rare case were a blend feature was not storing Feature Replay Data. When users turned off the Sew option in Face Blend and Aesthetic Blend, Feature Replay Data was not being saved so the blend feature would contininously recalculate its Feature Replay Data.  In NX 12, simply Renew these Blend and the unexpected updates will cease.

This is what I recommend,

  • Always use Sew option in Face Blend
  • Alsways use (and do not change) the Save Option, “Save Feature Replay Data”

In both cases I would be inclined to use non-associative Composite Curves.  This prevents you from creating dumb geometry and allows you to reconnect (reassociate) the defining geometry down the road, rather than removing parameters.

Thanks Derek.
if you can verify on this and post back pls.

I believe the closest you'll get to this functionality (SolidWorks: Equal Length) is to insert a Perimeter Dimension on an arc and drive its value using an existing Linear dimensional constraint. Similarly, the Perimeter dimension can be used to drive other Perimeter Dimensions or Linear Dimensions.  It won't work with Splines or Ellipses since these curves are not selectable for the Perimeter Dimension.

I concur with  - it appears to be a CADKEY file.

You can download a free viewer from Kubotec 3D to verify this and while they have a free 15 day trial for their CAD product it does not include the translators that you would need to use in order to get the data into NX.

Hi !

This caught my attention because I was just discussing ULP with someone this morning.

I'm not aware that NX has had the ability to create these directly for many releases.

You can probably use the JT Utility jt2jt to create one from an existing JT that you have exported from NX.

But suggest you consider first what you intend to do with the JT's contained ULP?

They will not have BREP or Facet info in them, so most systems, other than Tc Vis (and including NX) will be unable to consume them, since most need the BREP and/or Facets.

Pat,

We primarily use JT files for lightweight design reviews where we can take measurements and spin the model around to interrogate it. Our process engineers do that in JT2GO.

I'm not sure what you mean by most systems (including NX) will be unable to consume them, I was able to export a ULP format file from TcVis 11.2 and then open it in NX 11 - or did you mean that only TcVis and NX will be able to consume them?

Thanks,

Jeff

Tabs missing when starting a new part

When I start a new file only the "Line Designer" and "Drawing" tabs appear. I have reinstalled and it didn't fix it. Any ideas? I'm running NX11.

Hi ,

1) Is this NX session managed by Teamcenter?

2) Select "File > Help > Log File" and search the log file for "UGII_TEMPLATE_DIR".  If it's set, what is it pointing to?

Regards, Ben

1) Not on Teamcenter or any other PLM
2) I found "UGII_TEMPLATES_DIR" in 2 lines...

&MACRO PROMPT_ENTRY UGII_TEMPLATE_DIR
&MACRO !!! UGII_TEMPLATE_DIR was not found

Thank you.

Did you do a full install or a custom install?

I did a full install. I've done this on about 12 PC's the same way and 1 is having this problem. I checked one of the working install's log file and found those same 2 lines.

Can you upload your log file?  Be sure to remove any customer sensitive information in the header beforehand.

After I make an extrude with a sketch, the sketch disappeared automatically...

Originally, even though I made an extrude using a sketch,

the sketch remained.

But now, if I use a sketch,  the sketch become deleted automatically...

How can I do setting this?

I think this would be better sometimes.

Hi

Is it when you select an existing sketch in the Extrue dialog?
In that case, please check the modeling preference.

Preferences - Modeling - General tab - [Automatically Make Sketch Internal to Child Features]

*The scope of the preference is session. If you want to always change this preference, change "Customer Defaults".

I hope the above will be of help to you.

Hi,

If i m doing a section view in modeling , can i get that section view into the drafting.  Instead of creating new section view in drafing. Please refer this image.
