Re: Bend table in routing

Well I am not the right person to give suggestion for NX Open code. May be experts in forum can give the best answer to it. I have seen such customized utility where it creates the bend table with all co-ordiantes,bend value, developed length,OD,ID etc in drafting. I had looked if there is any sample Journal code available for the same but not able to find excatly as per your requirement. Lets wait for experts opinion. Smiley Happy

you can save view in modeling and use as per your requrment just like Top, front, etc. and that can be used as per your requrment in drafing to place it by basic view.

How to change file name in file manager without errors in NX assembly ?

Hello

How to change the main assembly file name in Windows file manager without errors in NX assembly ?

  • My file manager says "can't change name because in use by another program" ?
  • If I succeed to change the file name will it corrupt the NX assembly ? Errors for example like: "NX unable to find part that and that...in assembly because file name changed". Possible ?
  • What is the proper way to change the main file name which contains: the assembly and parts ?

File example: C:\ *Assembly* \ Assembly.prt

Clone the part and/or assembly. That way the structure will be kept. Must be done within NX.

"It sounds like the WAVE Geometry linker will do this, but I'm not sure I'll have access to this feature in the basic NX package."

You should be able to create and maintain wave links with the basic NX modeling license. There is an "advanced" wave license that gives you more capabilities (freeze/unfreeze links, position independent links, etc), but it isn't needed for the core functionality.

Is the sub-assembly going to be "cloned" every time it is used (i,e, you will make a unique copy for each parent)?

If not, this will be difficult.

If so (and the expressions are consistant enough), you could probably do this with a journal.

The "seed" subassembly would have (for example) "length_a = 5" (hard coded value)

After cloning, and adding to the main assembly, the journal could look for "length_a_parent" in the assembly file, and create an IPE in the sub-assembly pointing "length_a" (in sub assembly) at "length_a_parent" (in the assembly)

You could probably make this generic by just looking for expressions that have the same name in both parts, and linking them.

There used to be a way to have a parent drive expressions in other parts, but I believe that is deprecated in NX11 (or at least you are strongly(?) discouraged from using it)

You could try to see if the error message is in the syslog file (Help -> Log file; go to the bottom & scroll up)

There could be some more info pointing you at the real issue.

The issue is that every level of the assembly stores the full path to all components.

So *other than the very top level assembly* you can't just change things in Windows Explorer and expect it to work

- top level asembly must NOT be used in any other assembly

- if you set up & use "search directories" in load options, you can MOVE files to different folders (assuming theose folders are part of the search direcory paths) but you can't rename them.

Note file names are also used in other ways inside NX parts (e.g. for WAVE links, inter-part expressions, etc.)

As noted, the best way is to use the clone utilities.

Another (more cumbersome) option (again, if you change location of a file, but not the name) is open components first, then open the assembly (NX will use a part open in a session, before it looks out on disk)

Finally, if you change the file name, you can open the assembly, and "OK" all the warnings, Then use "replace component" (did they change the name of that command?) and find/select the "new" filename.  If it is truly just renamed in the OS, it *should* come in with all the associativity kept.

No, the point is to not clone the subassembly everytime, since this will produce a lot of (more or less) useless data.

I also thought of using the NXOpen API, but i'm looking for a "casual" way to find a solution. Because, when i replace my "seed" subassy's expression with an interpart link, i exactly have the problem that i created a link from the subassy to my main assy, it have to be the other way round.

Thanks for that, worked perfectly.

XN CAD Certificate for Mechanical Engineer

Dear Siemens Team,

My name is Serhii and I would like to know about NX CAD Certificate.
How, when and where can I sign up for the NX certification?

Is it on-line exam or should I go to the class? Is there any chance to pass an exam remotely?
Which certificate is the best for mechanical engineer?
What should be prepared for that exam?

Sincerely,

Serhii

The other thing you may want to look into is Prodcut Template Studio, PTS, which is design to be a codeless automation tool for designers. You could create your assembly, apply the logic and expressions. The users can drag this into their new assemblies and get a application speciific interfact to update the expressions.

You can see a sample of the end prodcut here.

With basic modelling license I can define product interface in order to use them in other parts by WAVE interface linker which is pretty similar to partcopy in SE.

I was reading about the WAVE Geometry linker, and it does sound similar.  But does it come with the basic (Mach Designer) modeling license?  I was told it's an add-on for all except the high end package (and not cheap!).  I hope that's wrong.

Thanks for your reply.

More control for dialog memory needed

I have created an ER that I think is useful for many customers.

For instance some dialogs don't use dialog memory at all, like the modeling hole dialog, so it is cumbersome to create holes of different depths based on vector, since you need to reselect this every time you hit apply.

If you would like to have more control over which dialog remembers its settings and size ask GTAC to be linked to ER#7963849 (control dialog memory for each dialog individually):

          ER Template
          -----------

* Short Description of desired enhancement: <Problem rather than a solution>
the is no way to enable or disable dialog memory for individual dialogues

 * What activity in your process is the product not able to currently handle?
we want to control the dialog memory for each dialog individually

 * What result are you trying to achieve? (Please provide as many details as possible.)
instead of relying on the internal management of dialog memory being saved within a session or across sessions, we want to control this on our own

 * Do you currently have a workaround?
    No

 * Do you have a proposal for the solution you envision Siemens PLM providing for this capability?
the global setting for dialog memory should specify the regular behavior of dialogues
each dialog should allow to specify its own memory option, like "remember across sessions" or "remember within session only"
in addition it should be possible to specify if the size of the dialog window is remembered or not across sessions or within a session

 * What is the level of productivity gained from such an enhancement?
    HIGH, usability and reliability

 * Other information:
keep the user from resetting dialogues that he would like to always start from scratch or the opposite
keep the user from resizing dialogues that are always to narrow and/or small when they are displayed

Thanks in advance for making NX a better product based on its community.

WAVE geometry linker is also available in basic packages. It brings the tools for linking geometry, datums... inside the assembly.

Attached is an update for gear_model2.  This is built for NX9 and has been signed.  It does need to have the dialog file correctly located.  Because it is only an update for the old program it does not include the features I am currently working on.

Hope this is of some use.

Simulating: placing and taking out tricky coverplates ?

$

Hello

Is there a way in NX to simulate taking out and putting in below sheet metal covers ?

  • These 2pcs covers made by me should have enough play to "slide in" and "out" easily when installed. To work.
  • If I make these pcs too large they are impossible to install.
  • Motor axle goes in to the center.
  • Wish I had 3D-printer. For these tricky positioning tasks.
  • Those angles kind of "lock it" in place and 2pcs screws tighten it.
